India’s Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal said that the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) is helpful to students in providing them confidence.

“SIH provides confidence to the students to stand up like a warrior and decide on the path they want to take,” he said.

A total of 124 students, grouped into 27 separate teams, are participating in the online SIH 2020 initiative from across the country. They will be required to find solutions to six problem statements put forth by the SIH. It began at the Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology, Coimbatore on August 1st. It will last a total of four days.

He also added that under the PM’s e-Vidya initiative, education technology in India is booming, speaking at the SIH 2020. “We are trying to use innovation and technology in the National Education Policy. We have initiated the National Education Technology Forum,” Pokhriyal said.

The SIH 2020 is conducted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development through the All India Council for Technical Education. The Bihar Government and the Department of Science and Technology provided the problem statements for the initiative.

The Minister said that the ideas that come out of the Smart India Hackathon will be implemented on the ground level. “I congratulate all participants. People have trust in you. We will ensure that whatever ideas come up during the Smart India Hackathon is implemented on the ground level.”
